Alexander Cohen

Alexander Cohen has been licensed to practice law in California since 1999 and is a founding partner of ACTS Law, LLP in Encino, which represents individuals, businesses, and commercial property owners in residential and commercial property damage claims and catastrophic losses involving water, fire, mud, landslides, vandalism, burglary, theft, and wildfires. He reports insurance and litigation as his practice areas to the State Bar of California and handles matters in English, Farsi, and Persian.

He represents California homeowners and businesses in property-insurance disputes, including disagreements about whether a loss is covered at all and disagreements about what the covered loss is worth.

Valuation disputes often turn on details that are easy to lose in a claim file: scope of repair, materials, code requirements, and the assumptions built into an insurer's estimate. Those assumptions are examined line by line against the policy and the physical evidence of the loss.

For businesses, the same review extends to the interruption side of the claim, where the measurement period and the financial records used to calculate the loss are frequently where the parties disagree.
